Here are some quotes from people who have learned to sail with us: -
"Club members are extremely friendly and helpful
in a relaxed and happy atmosphere."
"Everyone has been very friendly and made me feel
very welcome. The course was excellent, I never
thought I would manage to learn so much, thank you."
"The instructors were great, weather was terrific,
club house was warm when it got cold and the food
was excellent value. Just a shame I don't live
right next to it."
KWSC offers a number of training courses for people with varying levels of sailing experience from complete beginners to more seasoned sailors. Our instructors are all RYA qualified and are members who offer their time freely. We run as many courses as we can during the year but regret that due to limited time and resources we can only offer training courses to members. However, if you have never sailed and would like a taster of what it would be like before joining the club and taking a course, one of the training team will happily take you out for a trial sail.
We teach Adults and Young Sailors. Young Sailors follow the RYA Young Sailors Scheme Stages 1-4.

For those of you with some experience and looking to develop your skills further the club offers the RYA course covering: Start Racing, Seamanship Skills, Day Sailing, Sailing with Spinnakers and Performance Sailing. We offer these on a demand basis and usually schedule one or two courses a year.
If you would like to discuss training issues please contact us via the feedback form please. If you are a member and would like to book places on any of the above courses please complete the relevant forms sent out with the membership renewals in January or use the contact details above.
Please note that because our training is run by qualified members on a voluntary basis we are unable to offer any training to non-members. We are also unable to offer training to visitors on holiday in the area, and suggest you visit the web sites of Hawkhirst Adventure Camp and the Calvert Trust to see if they can help.
We offer PowerBoat RYA training at L1/L2 and Safety Boat. Currently our courses are fully allocated but we may run more later in the year. Contact Dave or Julie if you are interested.
We run at least one RYA first aid course every year in house. This is organised when there is sufficient demand from renewal training (every 3 years) or those taking it for the first time. Contact Julie if interested.
This year we will be revisiting the way we deliver Race Management and Race Management training to align ourselves with the RYA's fresh approach to Race Management. Watch this space and the Forum for exciting developments.
To get you sailing the club offers training at level 1 and 2 of the RYA National Dinghy Certificate Scheme, along with individual or family training on an ad-hoc basis for those wishing to improve their skills or gain confidence. Training takes place over a number of weekends with some shore-based theory and some practical experience part of every course. The courses are proving very popular.
The club owns 2 Wayfarer dinghies, 1 Marine Tutor, 2 Comet and 5 Topper dinghies and 4 Optimists for use in training. The majority of adult training involves the use of the Wayfarers, which are boats that can be sailed by two or three people, so you won't be asked to sail by yourself when you first start sailing. You'll also be placed in the boat with others who are doing the same course as you along with an instructor.
The training team has also recently added 2 RS Fevas to the club fleet. These are a modern design, for a single or double crew, that can be sailed with an asymmetric spinnaker. They are aimed at children moving on from Toppers but can also be sailed by an adult with child.
To get you sailing at an early age we offer the RYA Young Sailors Scheme at stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 to children of our members. Children learn at very different rates depending on their age and enthusiasm and the stages allow the instructor to sign off each part of the syllabus as competence in that skill is demonstrated. The club has 5 Topper and 4 Optimist dinghies for use in this sailing scheme and older children are encouraged to use the Toppers before being introduced to the club's 2 RS Feva dinghies at Stage 4 of the scheme. The clubhouse looks over a small bay that is ideal for training budding sailors in safety. We regret that due to limited resources and time the Young Sailors scheme is available to children of members only.
To keep you sailing the club boats are available for use by members at any time. These boats are ideal for gaining more confidence in yourself and your sailing without making the commitment of buying your own boat. We do ask that a contribution is made towards the insurance and maintenance costs of the boats whenever they are used by members.

Peace, tranquility, cosy club house, cruise, camp and the adrenalin of racing - the choices are yours.
... and in addition simply enjoy the local walks, mountain bike tracks, woodlands, rivers and fells.
